Garmin GPSMAP 1042xsv

The GPSMAP 1042xsv is a 10-inch keyed chartplotter and sonar combo with built-in ClearVu, SideVu, and CHIRP sonar, plus Garmin Navionics+ US and Canada coastal charts and inland mapping already loaded. It runs a keypad interface with a multifunction control knob, which a lot of anglers prefer over a touchscreen when the water gets rough or your hands are wet. Two Garmin Marine Network ports and a 12-pin transducer port give you a full-featured helm in one unit.

What It Does on the Water

The built-in sonar handles ClearVu and SideVu scanning at 260, 455, and 800 kHz, plus CHIRP traditional sonar at 50, 77, 83, and 200 kHz, with 1 kW of transmit power. The GT52HW-TM variant includes a GT52-TM transducer so you can start fishing right away. The No Transducer variant ships without one, which works well if you already have a compatible transducer on the boat. For LiveScope and Panoptix live sonar, you still need a compatible black box sonar module, sold separately.

The GPSMAP 1042xsv connects to your Garmin Marine Network across two ports to share maps, radar, sonar, and IP camera feeds across multiple units on the same boat. It supports NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 for autopilots, VHF, AIS, digital switching, and other sensors. Built-in Wi-Fi connects to the ActiveCaptain app for software updates, chart upgrades to Navionics Vision+, and access to the Garmin Quickdraw Contours community.
