What Is Garmin LiveScope 2?
LiveScope 2 is the next generation of Garmin's live-scanning sonar. Like the original, it shows you fish, bait, and structure moving around your boat as it happens. The difference: more detail, more range, and a much simpler rig.
Across the series you get up to 20% more resolution, 50% more detail at close range, wider sonar angles in all three views, better target separation, and image stabilization that smooths the picture in chop.
Processing is quicker too, with lower latency. That counts when a walleye slides up behind your jig and you have two seconds to react.
The Big One: No More Black Box
This is the change everybody has been asking for since 2018. LiveScope 2 transducers plug directly into a compatible Garmin display and a power source. That means no GLS 10 black box and no extra network cabling cluttering your console.
The black box was the most annoying part of every previous LiveScope install. Removing it means less wiring, fewer failure points, and a cleaner setup on smaller boats.
A built-in water sensor shuts the sonar off when the transducer leaves the water, and an onboard sensor reads water temperature. Both included mounts (trolling motor barrel and Perspective) adjust without tools.

LiveScope 2 (LVS44) is the open-water workhorse, with 20% more resolution than Plus and 25% more range, out to 250 feet. If you graph basin walleyes on Mille Lacs or hunt suspended crappies, this is your transducer.
LiveScope 2 HD (LVS42HD) is tuned for castable distances out to 125 feet, with 50% more detail up close. It's the crispest live sonar Garmin has made. Bass anglers working docks and weedlines will want the HD.
LiveScope 2 HD Ice Fishing Transducer brings the same HD imaging to hardwater, with a freeze-resistant cable, an all-in-one power and network cable, and a 0-degree shaft mount. We know it's July. A Few Things to Check Before You Order
LiveScope 2 connects directly to compatible Garmin displays, so confirm your chartplotter is on Garmin's compatibility list before ordering. If you're running an older ECHOMAP or GPSMAP unit, you may need a screen upgrade.
